Evansville for Change

Organizing for Southwest Indiana

Website Committee

April 30, 2009 Meeting Notes

Katie Griffin, Cathy Edrington, Will Smith and Kay ForbesSmith attended: Katie and Cathy at the Oaklyn Library; Kay and Will Skyping in from SC.

We all agreed that the site has taken off well but we needed to make incremental improvements: enrich the content and increase traffic to the site.   The goal is to have a site that is THE communications hub for everybody in SW Indiana who are interested in helping to generate the kind of change that the election of President Obama has made possible.

Incremental Improvements

  • Will stated we have over 2000 hits so far and will generate an analytics report to about site traffic that may help us understand how visitors are using the site.
  • Amy has been asked to categorize the links as that list is getting VERY long
  • Many of the pages can benefit by being broken down into sub-pages
    • Notes by Task Forces and Committees
    • How We Got Here by Volunteer Stories and Field Organizer Stories
    • Kay will send out a call for volunteer antecdotes to be posted
She will also remind other Field Organizers to submit their stories
  • Kay will learn how to add sub-pages and add as necessary

Enrich Content

  • Get more, diverse posts from a greater number of contributors
  • Bob Wuerth has suggested many people to contact
    • Ray Anderson (who has already been conacted and made first post this week)
    • Pattie Ladato
    • Rob Reid at USI
    • Ian Martinez(Bob will contact)
    • Clark Field (also already contributing)
    • Ross Meny
    • Kathy Rowe (Bob will contact)
    • Allison Baumann (Bob will contact)
  • Estella’s Stories
    • suggested by Amy awhile ago and the committee feels it would be great to capture some of Estella’s wonderful stories on the site.
    • Katie volunteered to recruit Amy to develop a plan for doing this

Promoting the Site

  • “Guerrilla Marketing” : encourage all committee members and other EFC members to put link to the site in all communications to our community including:
    • Facebook event postings
    • Communications to the Evansville for Obama email group
    • Personal emails as appropriate
  • Bumper Stickers with just the site address in bold.
    • Kay will look into getting these done
    • Need to consider distribution (sell, or give away)…would tie into the Finance Committee’s decisions
  • T-Shirts.
    • Present design at future meeting and take orders
  • Check out Cafe Press for ideas

We all decided that we had accomplished a lot and adjourned to watch the President’s press conference.
